TRS Italian Peeled Plum Tomatoes are whole plums in tomato juice, produced in Italy from Italian tomatoes, 240g drained. Crushed into the pan they give a sweeter, less acidic sauce than chopped tomatoes, because less of the flesh has been cut and cooked before it reached the tin. Buy the TRS when the sauce has time to simmer and you do not mind crushing them yourself; when speed matters more, the KTC Chopped Tomatoes 400g are the sensible tin.
How to use it
Crush them by hand into the pan for a curry base and cook until the oil separates. The sweeter tomato is worth having in butter chicken and other makhani sauces, and in a ragu, a pizza sauce or a slow shakshuka. Drained, halved and roasted with garlic and oil, they make a quick chutney.
