TRS Cumin Whole, also labelled Jeera Whole, is a 100g bag of whole cumin seeds from the TRS range of Asian spices. Whole cumin is the seed that starts most North Indian dishes: it crackles in hot oil and gives dals, rice and vegetables their warm, earthy base.
How to use it
Heat a tablespoon of ghee or oil, add a teaspoon of cumin and let it sizzle until it darkens a shade and smells nutty, then add the rest of your ingredients. This is the start of jeera rice, dal tadka and aloo gobi. On Navratri fasting days cumin is one of the spices most households keep, so use it for vrat aloo, sabudana khichdi and samo rice with sendha namak. Dry roast and grind for jeera powder to sprinkle over raita and chaat. Cook before eating.
