Heera White Rock Salt is sindhalu, the white crystal rock salt known in Hindi as sendha namak. It comes as rough lumps and coarse grains and has a clean, mild saltiness. Rock salt is the only salt many families use during Navratri and other vrat days, when ordinary table salt is set aside, so it is a staple of the fasting kitchen. The 400g bag lasts through the nine days and beyond.
How to use it
Crush the lumps in a mortar and pestle, or pulse briefly in a spice grinder, and keep a small jar of the fine salt by the stove. Use it to season sabudana khichdi, kuttu puris, singhare ki roti, aloo jeera and vrat raita. Sprinkle it with black pepper over roasted makhana or sweet potato chaat. Taste as you go, because a crushed spoonful can be a little coarser or finer than table salt. Outside the fasting season it seasons fruit chaat and lassi.
