Stars Rose and Sherbet Syrup is a bright red, rose-flavoured cordial from Stars Bombay Sweet of Colombo, a long-standing name in Sri Lankan sweets. It is made with cane sugar, water and nature-identical rose flavour, coloured with carmoisine, and comes in the classic embossed 750ml glass bottle. The bottle label suggests mixing one cup of syrup with four cups of cool water or milk.
How to use it
For a quick rose sherbet, stir about 30ml of syrup into a tall glass of iced water with a squeeze of lime. For rose milk, whisk it into chilled milk until pale pink, or blend with milk and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It is the syrup to drizzle over falooda with basil seeds, vermicelli and kulfi, and a spoonful over shaved ice, kheer or a glass of lassi brings a festive pink finish to Diwali and Eid tables. Refrigerate after opening.
