Start shoppingReady-made sandwiches and wraps frozen for the days when lunch needs to happen in ten minutes. Heat them through in the oven, a sandwich press or a pan and eat them hot with chutney or ketchup.
Frozen sandwiches and wraps are filled, assembled and frozen so they need only heating. They suit a working lunch, an after school snack or a quick plate with tea, and they keep for weeks in the freezer until needed. Fillings and breads vary across the range, so read the pack for what is inside, whether it is vegetarian, and any allergens.
Most are best heated from frozen. A toasted or grilled sandwich crisps well in a sandwich press, in a dry frying pan with a lid, or in the oven, where it should be turned once. Wraps heat evenly in the oven or air fryer when wrapped loosely in foil for the first part of the cooking, then opened so the outside crisps. Follow the time on the pack, and make sure the centre is steaming hot before eating.
A sandwich goes well with green chutney, tamarind chutney or a dab of chilli paste, and a handful of namkeen on the side turns it into a proper plate. For other hot snacks, see frozen samosas and frozen kachori, all part of frozen snacks and sides. Store at -18°C, and once a sandwich has thawed, heat and eat it the same day.
