Chamundeswari Dasangam is a dhoop powder for the pooja, the fragrant blend South Indian homes sprinkle over glowing charcoal or a hot coal in a dhoop burner. Dasangam, from the Sanskrit for ten parts, is the traditional temple mix of resins, woods and aromatic powders, and it gives off a thick, sweet smoke. How to use it
Light a charcoal disc in a dhoop holder or sambrani pot and wait until it glows grey at the edges. Sprinkle a small pinch of dasangam over it and let the smoke rise, then carry the holder around the shrine or the home during the evening prayer. Add a little more powder as the smoke fades. Use a heatproof base, keep the burner away from cloth, and open a window in a small room.
