      How it works

      Dairylea

Dairylea is a familiar British name for soft, mild cheese spread, sold in tubs and in foil wrapped triangles. It is the creamy cheese many children first meet in a sandwich or a lunchbox.

      About Dairylea

Dairylea is made in the UK by Mondelez and has been part of British lunchboxes for generations. It is made by heating and blending milk and cheese into a smooth, spreadable cheese with a gentle, salty flavour. The packs we carry are a good source of calcium, have no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives added, and are suitable for vegetarians.

You will find it in cheese, within cheese and butter in our chilled and dairy department. The tub is the one for spreading on toast and sandwiches through the week. The triangles come individually wrapped, so they portion neatly into lunchboxes and travel well for a school trip or a long drive.

Spread it thickly on hot toast or crackers, or roll a warm chapati around a layer of spread and grated carrot for a quick child friendly wrap. Stir a spoonful into masala noodles at the end of cooking for creamy cheese Maggi, the hostel favourite, or into scrambled eggs with green chilli and coriander. Mash a triangle into spiced potato before shaping aloo tikki so they ooze in the middle, or melt it into a white sauce for macaroni cheese in minutes.

Keep both packs in the fridge. Once the tub is open, smooth the surface, put the lid back on firmly and use it within a few days. For other things to spread at breakfast, see butter and spreads, and for a firmer cheese to cook with, look at paneer.
