Natco Gungo Peas 400g
Natco gungo peas 400g are cooked pigeon peas in salted water, 240g drained, the pulse behind a proper Caribbean rice and peas and a great deal of Trinidadian and Guyanese cooking. They are small, firm and slightly nutty, and hold their shape through a long simmer with coconut milk. For a Punjabi curry, the black eye beans or jumbo chickpeas in the same range are the closer fit.

How to use it
Fry spring onion, garlic and thyme, add the drained peas, rice and coconut milk, and cook until the rice is done for rice and peas. They also go into a Trinidadian pelau, a gungo pea soup with dumplings, or a curry with a Caribbean curry powder.
