KTC Chopped Tomatoes are peeled Italian tomatoes, chopped and packed in tomato juice, 240g drained. This is the tin most curry bases in a British Asian kitchen start from. Chopped tomatoes break down faster than whole plums, so the KTC 400g is the one for a weeknight masala, a keema, or a pasta sauce when time is short. For a sweeter, slower sauce, and if you do not mind crushing them yourself, take the TRS Peeled Plum Tomatoes 400g.
How to use it
Add it once the onions have browned and cook until the oil separates: that is the tomato stage of almost any curry. It is the gravy in rajma, chana masala and keema, and it stands in for a pizza or pasta sauce. Heated gently on its own for five or six minutes it makes the start of a soup.
