Start shoppingChio is a European snack brand, and its Gold Fischli are little fish shaped baked crackers made for nibbling. They come in cascaval cheese and sesame flavours, light enough to eat by the handful.
Chio is part of Intersnack, one of Europe's larger savoury snack makers, and the name is well known in Germany and across Central and Eastern Europe for crisps, tortilla chips and baked crackers. The Gold Fischli we stock are made in Hungary: small fish shaped crackers baked from wheat flour, crisp and only lightly salted, and each pack is a source of fibre.
Both flavours sit in crackers, part of the biscuits and cookies shelf in our snacks and noodles department. One is flavoured with cascaval, the mild, slightly salty yellow cheese loved in Romania and the Balkans, and the other is scattered with sesame and poppy seeds for a toasty, nutty bite. Each bag is a modest sharing size.
Tip them into a bowl with drinks, pack a handful in a lunchbox, or set them out with olives, gherkins and sliced cheese on a snack board. They sit well beside a cold beer or a glass of wine, and children like dropping the fish shapes into a bowl of tomato soup, where they float for a minute before softening. Mixed with roasted peanuts, a little melted butter and a pinch of chilli powder, then warmed in the oven, they turn into a quick party mix.
Fold the bag down tightly once open and keep it somewhere cool and dry so the crackers stay crunchy. For more savoury nibbles, compare crisps and namkeen, where the spice runs higher, and see olives and gherkins for the snack board.
