Araliya is a Sri Lankan rice miller whose yellow bags carry a flower drawn above the name in Sinhala script. The rice is grown, milled and packed in Sri Lanka, and each pack is cleaned so that it is free of sand, stones and black seeds, which saves the old job of picking over the grain on a tray before cooking.
The range covers the grains a Sri Lankan kitchen cooks most. Red nadu is parboiled red rice with a firm, nutty grain for everyday rice and curry, while red raw, or rathu kekulu, is milled without parboiling and cooks softer for red kiribath and kanji. Both sit in our Red Rice collection.
Keeri samba is the tiny, fragrant grain Sri Lankans use for biryani, yellow rice and lamprais, and the broken keeri samba pieces cook thick and creamy for milk rice and breakfast. You will find both under Samba Rice. Rosa raw and white raw, the pale kekulu grains, are soft cooking rices for daily meals, and white raw is the one to soak and grind for hopper batter. They are filed under Raw & Naadu Rice.
Each grain comes in two bag sizes, one for a regular household and a larger one for big families and gatherings. Keep the rice in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and move it to an airtight container once the bag is open. The rice is packed in a facility that also handles cereals containing gluten.
