Aargee Black Teel is black sesame seed, known in Tamil as karuppu ellu and in Hindi as kala til, packed in a small screw top tub for religious use. Black til is offered in tarpanam and other rites for ancestors, in Shani puja and in the sesame lamp and homam rituals of many families. How to use it
Take a spoonful for each offering, following your priest or family custom: mixed with water and darbha grass for tarpanam, offered to the fire in a homam, or placed beside a sesame oil lamp on a Saturday. Keep the lid closed between uses so the seeds stay dry. Buy black sesame from the spice shelf for cooking, as this tub is labelled not for consumption.
