Garden is the brand of The Garden Company, a Hong Kong bakery whose bread, biscuits and crackers are household names there. Its biscuits are still made in Hong Kong and are a familiar sight in Chinese and East Asian households abroad, especially the cream wafers and the very thin savoury crackers that come out with afternoon tea.
We carry Garden in two parts of biscuits and cookies, in snacks and noodles. The cream wafers, in chocolate, peanut butter and vanilla, are in wafers, each box split into single packs. The thin crackers, one topped with sesame and one with spring onion and chives, are in crackers, packed in two inner bags.
In Hong Kong the crackers go with milk tea or a pot of jasmine tea in the afternoon, and the spring onion ones are good beside a bowl of soup or congee. The peanut butter wafers have crisp layers with a nutty cream, the chocolate ones suit children's lunchboxes, and the vanilla wafers break neatly over ice cream. Set out a plate of both, sweet and savoury, when guests come for Lunar New Year or a long chat over tea.
Keep the boxes in a cool, dry cupboard away from strong smells, and close any opened inner pack with a clip so it does not soften. For tea to go with them see green tea, and for other savoury bites browse crisps.
