Daawat Extra Long Basmati Rice in the 20kg sack is the catering size of the aged basmati the brand grows in northern and central India. The pack puts the cooked grain at about 20mm, which comes from ageing the rice before it is milled so it lengthens instead of breaking in the pan. How to use it
Soak a 100g portion for 30 minutes, drain, then add 200ml of water per portion, bring it to the boil and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes. Rest it covered for a few minutes and separate the grains with a fork. Long grains that stay whole are what biryani, pulao and a plate of jeera rice need.
