Filippo Berio Hot Chilli Pesto is the red jar in the range, built on a Roman style sauce of tomatoes and red peppers with chilli at 7.7% and a little anchovy paste behind it for depth. The heat is present without taking over, so it works as a weeknight pasta sauce for people who find a plain tomato jar too flat. One 190g jar serves four with 500g of pasta. How to use it
Stir it through hot drained pasta with a spoonful of the cooking water, or warm it briefly in the pan with prawns or chicken before the pasta goes in. It is also good spread on bruschetta, stirred into a tray of roasting vegetables, or thinned with oil as a dressing for couscous. Shake the jar first, refrigerate after opening and use it within two weeks.
