Daawat have been packing basmati from northern India since 1984, and Extra Long is the grain they pick for length. The rice is perfectly aged before packing, so each grain stretches as it cooks and stays separate on the plate, with a delicate flavour and a sweet aroma.
How to cook it
Rinse the rice until the water runs clear, then soak it for 30 minutes. The pack method is 100g of rice to 200ml of water: bring the water to the boil, add the rice and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes, then rest it with the lid on for a few minutes before fluffing with a fork. For biryani and pulao, par-boil in plenty of salted water and finish in layers with the masala.
