Elephant House

Elephant House is one of Sri Lanka's best known drinks brands, made by Ceylon Cold Stores, and its soft drinks have been part of island life for generations. Cream soda in particular is almost a national flavour, poured at weddings, school events and family celebrations, and the brand also makes ice cream sold across Sri Lanka.

The Elephant House drinks we carry sit in our fizzy drinks collection, part of soft drinks and juices in the tea, coffee and drinks department. The range includes cream soda, with its soft vanilla and caramel sweetness; Necto, a bright red fruity soda; and orange barley, a citrus drink with a gentle barley note. Each comes in a large bottle for sharing and a smaller one for a single serving.

Sri Lankan families pour cream soda with rice and curry on Sundays, with short eats such as patties, rolls and cutlets, and with a slice of cake at birthdays. Necto, sweet and strongly coloured, is a favourite with children at parties and on picnic days. Orange barley is the most refreshing of the three on a hot day and goes well with spicy kottu and devilled dishes. Cream soda also makes a sweet float with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Fizzy drinks hold their sparkle best when chilled before opening and kept tightly capped in the fridge afterwards; a large bottle is best finished within a couple of days once open.
