Hartley's Blackcurrant Jelly is a block of concentrated jelly cubes that you melt in boiling water and set in the fridge, making one pint of glossy purple blackcurrant flavour jelly. The front of the pack says fat free and no artificial colours, and the colour comes from anthocyanins. It is set with pork gelatine, so it is not suitable for vegetarians or for a halal diet. How to use it
Separate the tablet into cubes and put them in a jug or bowl. Add half a pint (285ml) of boiling water and stir until dissolved, then add cold water to make up to one pint (570ml). Stir, pour into a mould or serving dish, leave to cool and refrigerate to set. Serve it with ice cream or custard, layer it in a trifle, or set it in small cups for a children's party.
