Shazmin's

Shazmin's is a frozen pastry brand that makes the puff pastry squares used across South Asian and Caribbean home baking. The pastry is wheat flour layered with margarine, so it rises into crisp, flaky layers in a hot oven, and it comes cut into neat squares so there is no rolling or trimming to do.

On our shelves Shazmin's sits in frozen pastry and samosa leaves, part of the frozen snacks and sides section of our frozen department. Choose the 4 inch squares for bite sized party puffs and the 5 inch squares for a filling snack or a lunchbox patty. Each pack holds ten squares.

Thaw the squares as the pack directs, then fill them with spiced potato and peas, curried chicken, keema, paneer or a halved boiled egg in onion masala, the classic bakery egg puff. Fold into triangles or rectangles, press the edges to seal, brush with beaten egg or milk and bake until risen and golden. For a sweet version, fill with apple, jam or mango pulp and dust with sugar once baked.
