Start shoppingHarischandra is a long-standing Sri Lankan name for coffee and noodles, and both are on our shelves: a coffee for the morning cup and noodles for a quick Sri Lankan-style meal. A taste of Galle in the kitchen cupboard.
Harischandra is a Sri Lankan food company based in Galle, in the south of the island, and one of the country's older household brands. Its name is attached to coffee, noodles, spices and other everyday groceries, and Sri Lankan families abroad often look for it as a taste of home.
We carry Harischandra in two collections. Our instant coffee shelf holds its coffee in more than one size, and our Sri Lankan noodles shelf holds its noodles, sold in a family pack for cooking several portions at once.
Sri Lankans often drink coffee black and sweet, traditionally with a piece of jaggery or kithul on the side, or with milk powder stirred in. Harischandra coffee suits that style, and it also makes a quick iced coffee with condensed milk. The noodles are boiled and stir-fried with vegetables, egg and curry leaves, or tossed with leftover chicken curry and chopped like kottu, and they go well alongside seeni sambol or a fried fish. A bowl of noodles with a fried egg and a spoon of lunu miris is a fast weeknight supper.
Keep coffee in a sealed jar away from steam and heat, and spoon it out with a dry spoon, since moisture spoils its aroma. Noodles keep for months in a dry cupboard. To compare, browse the Prima shelf and our filter coffee range.
