Galletas Gullón is a family owned biscuit company from Castile and León in northern Spain. Outside Spain it is best known for its sugar free and no added sugar ranges, sweetened with sweeteners, and for high fibre and whole grain biscuits, while at home it also bakes Spanish classics such as bizcochos, the sugar topped sponge fingers.
Gullón appears in three places on our biscuits and cookies shelf, within the snacks and noodles department. The lady fingers and the sugar free fibre biscuits sit in sweet biscuits. The no added sugar chocolate sandwich cookies and the whole grain breakfast biscuits with a yogurt flavoured filling are in cream biscuits. The sugar free chocolate flavour wafers, marked vegan on the pack, are in wafers.
The bizcochos are the classic base for tiramisu: dip each one briefly in strong coffee, layer with mascarpone and finish with a dusting of cocoa powder. They also line a trifle bowl or a charlotte, and make an Indian fusion dessert soaked in saffron milk and topped with rabri and pistachios. The sugar free and no added sugar biscuits are for the tea and coffee break, and the breakfast biscuits are wrapped in small packs for a bag or a desk drawer.
Packs made with sweeteners carry a warning that eating a lot at once can have a laxative effect, so keep to a few at a time. Store opened biscuits in an airtight tin. For sugar free sweetening in drinks and baking, see sweeteners, and for crisp dunking biscuits compare rusks and khari.
