KTC Plum Tomatoes are whole peeled Italian plum tomatoes packed in their own tomato juice, with citric acid added as an acidity regulator. Each 400g can holds 60% peeled tomatoes and gives 240g drained weight. Plum tomatoes have firm flesh, few seeds and a rich, gently sweet flavour, which is why cooks keep a tin or two in the cupboard for the months when fresh tomatoes are pale and watery. How to use it
Crush the tomatoes by hand or with a spoon straight into the pan. They make a quick base for chicken curry, rajma, chole and egg curry once the onions, ginger and garlic have softened in oil, and they cook down well for shakshuka, pasta sauce, soups and slow stews. Use the juice as well: it adds body to a gravy without extra paste. To serve the tomatoes warm on their own, the can suggests heating them gently on the hob for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
