Fudco Whole Cloves are the dried flower buds of the clove tree, dark brown with a round head and a short stem, in a 50g bag. Cloves are strong, warm and slightly numbing on the tongue, so a few go a long way. They are one of the whole spices that open a biryani or pulao, sit in most garam masala blends and give masala chai its edge. Find more whole spices in our Cloves range.
How to use it
Drop four or five cloves into hot ghee or oil with cinnamon, cardamom and bay leaf at the start of a pilau, biryani or meat curry, and let them crackle before adding onions. Grind them with cumin, coriander, pepper and cardamom for your own garam masala, or crush two into a pan of chai with ginger. Push a clove into each slice of onion for a tarka dal or stud a ham for roasting. Remove whole cloves before serving if you can find them.
