BTM Jack Mackerel in Tomato Sauce is Chilean jack mackerel, Trachurus murphyi, caught by purse seine in the South Pacific and packed in a mild tomato sauce. Fish makes up 65.88% of the tin, a firm and meaty mackerel with 17g of protein and 1.424g of omega 3 per 100g. The sauce is mild, so it works well as a base for your own spices. How to use it
Warm it through in a pan and serve with rice, bread or boiled cassava. To turn it into a quick curry, fry onion, garlic, green chilli and curry leaves, add a little chilli powder and turmeric, then the fish and sauce and simmer for a few minutes. It also makes a simple mackerel sandwich, a topping for toast with sliced onion, or a filling for fish rolls and patties. Once opened, empty the tin into a container, refrigerate and use within 3 days.
