BTM Jack Mackerel in Spicy Tomato Sauce is Chilean jack mackerel, Trachurus murphyi, caught by purse seine in the South East Pacific and packed in a tomato sauce warmed with chilli. Fish makes up 70.6% of the tin, and once drained there is 300g of firm fish, with 21g of protein and 1.13g of omega 3 per 100g. How to use it
Warm the fish and sauce gently in a pan and serve with rice, bread or roti. For a fuller Sri Lankan style dish, fry sliced onion, green chilli and curry leaves first, then add the tin and simmer for a few minutes with a squeeze of lime. It is good flaked onto toast, folded into an omelette, stirred through pasta or noodles, or used as a filling for spicy fish buns and rolls. Once opened, move any leftovers into an airtight container and keep refrigerated for up to 3 days.
