Baba's Uppuma Mix is a ready seasoned semolina for uppuma, the soft, savoury South Indian breakfast also spelt upma or uppittu. The bag holds semolina already mixed with salt, dried carrot, dried peas, urid dhal, mustard seeds and curry leaves, so the tempering and vegetables are in the pack and there is no chopping or frying to do first. It comes from Baba's of Malaysia, the spice and mix maker known across Malaysian Indian kitchens, in a 450g bag that cooks in one go for six servings. How to use it

The pack uses the whole 450g bag with 6 cups (1200ml) of water and 1 tablespoon (20g) of ghee. Boil the water in a pan, add the uppuma mix and stir well for about 7 minutes. Once the uppuma thickens, mix in the ghee for about a minute and serve. Uppuma is usually eaten hot with coconut chutney, sambar or a spoon of pickle, and a squeeze of lemon or a few roasted cashews scattered over the top make a nice finish. For a smaller batch, keep the same ratio of mix to water.
