Allinson's Dried Active Yeast is the classic granular baker's yeast for traditional hand baking, packed in a small tin with a resealable plastic cap. The granules are woken up first in sweetened warm water until they froth, then added to the dough. Allinson's has been milling since 1892, and the tin holds 125g, enough for several batches of bread, rolls, pizza bases or soft naan dough. Browse more baking yeast in our Yeast range.
How to use it
The tin gives this activation recipe: dissolve 1 teaspoon of sugar in 150ml of warm water, made with 1 part boiling to 2 parts cold. Sprinkle in 15g of the dried active yeast and whisk thoroughly, then leave in a warm place until the surface is covered in froth, which usually takes about 15 minutes. Whisk again and use straight away. The liquid used to activate the yeast counts towards the liquid in your recipe, so take it away from the water or milk the recipe asks for. Knead, prove and shape as your recipe directs.
