Ahmed Mango Jelly Crystals make a golden yellow, mango flavoured jelly from Ahmed Foods of Karachi, a Pakistani food maker established in 1952. The crystals are mostly sugar with carrageenan as the setting agent, so the jelly sets without gelatine, with adipic acid and sodium citrate for a fruity tang and a simulated mango flavour. The box is marked instant set and makes four servings, ready for mango trifle, falooda, custard bowls and party desserts. Browse more set desserts in our Jelly range.
How to use it
The full recipe is printed on the inside of the box, so open it out and follow the water quantities given there. Jelly crystals are dissolved in hot water, topped up with cold and left to cool until set, so allow time in the fridge before serving. Cube the set jelly into falooda or fruit chaat, layer it under custard, cream and sponge for a mango trifle, or set it in small cups with pieces of fresh or tinned mango. It pairs well with vanilla ice cream and with kulfi.
