Aachi Cut Mango Pickle is a South Indian style pickle of raw green mango pieces, described on the jar as mango preserved in salt and spices. The pieces sit in rice bran oil with red chilli powder, mustard, fenugreek and asafoetida, which give the sharp, sour, gently bitter tang that makes mango pickle such a good partner for plain rice and curd. The spice level is marked medium, so it brings warmth without overpowering a meal. The Tamil name on the label is maangai oorugai. Find more jars in our Mango Pickle range.
How to use it
Serve a spoonful on the side of curd rice, dal and rice, sambar rice or a simple plate of rasam and rice. It is just as good with dosa, idli, chapati or paratha, and a little stirred into plain yoghurt makes a quick dip. Pickles are strong and salty, so a small piece goes a long way. Always use a clean, dry spoon to keep moisture out of the jar, and keep it in the fridge once opened.
