Aachi Chukku Malli Kappi is a ready blend for the hot, spiced drink known across Tamil Nadu as sukku malli coffee. Despite the name, there is no coffee in it: the base is palm jaggery with dry ginger (chukku) and coriander (malli), rounded out with black pepper, long pepper, licorice, basil and turmeric. The result is a sweet, warming cup with a gentle peppery bite. It is made in India and packed in a 100g carton. Find similar blends in our Sukku Malli Coffee range.
How to use it
Bring 120ml of water to the boil in a saucepan, stir in 2 teaspoons of the powder and let it simmer on a low flame for 5 minutes. Add milk if you like, and a little extra palm jaggery for a sweeter cup. Strain and serve hot. Many South Indian families make it in the evening, on cold days or after a heavy meal, and drink it in place of their usual filter coffee or tea.
