PG Tips

PG Tips is one of Britain's best known tea brands, a blend of black teas made for the strong, milky cup the UK drinks every day. It is famous for its pyramid shaped tea bags, designed to give the leaves more room to move as they brew.

Brew a bag in freshly boiled water for a few minutes, squeeze lightly and add milk for a proper cup of British tea with toast or biscuits. Many South Asian families also use strong tea bags for chai: simmer two or three bags in water with crushed cardamom and ginger, add milk and sugar and let it boil up. The blend's strength and deep colour hold their own against spices and full cream milk, which is why it turns up in so many British Asian kitchens alongside the loose leaf.
