Marvel Original is the classic British dried skimmed milk powder from Premier Foods, with added vitamins A and D and less than 1% fat. A small tin keeps for weeks once opened, which makes it a handy standby for tea and coffee when the fridge runs dry, and a useful store-cupboard ingredient for bread makers and everyday cooking. This 175g tin makes around nine 200ml portions.
How to use it
To make 600ml (about a pint), put four and a half heaped tablespoons into a dry measuring jug and stir in a pint of cold water. Use as fresh milk and refrigerate any you do not use straight away. For hot milk, bring it slowly to the boil over a low heat. In tea or coffee, let boiling water cool slightly before stirring in one or two teaspoons. A few spoonfuls also thicken a lighter kheer or masala chai during festive fasting days.
