Marvel

Marvel is a long-established British brand of dried skimmed milk powder, familiar from UK kitchen cupboards for decades. It is simply skimmed milk with the water removed, so it keeps for months unopened and mixes back to milk with cold or warm water.

We carry Marvel in our milk powder collection, within milk and malt drinks. Unlike the full cream powders on the same shelf, Marvel is made from skimmed milk, so it tastes lighter and contains very little fat, which changes how it behaves in cooking and how rich a sweet turns out.

A spoonful in a mug of tea or coffee does the work of fresh milk, and campers and caravan owners keep a tin for exactly that. In baking it adds browning and a soft crumb to bread, rolls and naan dough. South Asian cooks use milk powder to make quick barfi, milk powder gulab jamun and peda, and to thicken kheer without hours of reducing; skimmed powder works well, though full cream powder gives a richer, creamier result. Mix it to a smooth paste with a little water first to stop lumps forming.
