Niru Steamed Wheat Flour 3.6kg

A 3.6kg carry bag of steamed wheat flour, for homes where pittu and string hoppers are on the table several times a week. The flour is steamed before packing, so it absorbs hot water evenly and steams into soft, fluffy pittu with none of the raw taste of ordinary plain flour.

How to use it

Work warm salted water into the flour with your fingertips until it forms damp crumbs, then layer with grated coconut in a pittu kuzhal and steam. For idiyappam, pour boiling water over the flour, stir with a spoon, knead briefly and press onto trays to steam. Many families blend it with roasted red rice flour for a softer, more colourful pittu. It also makes good roti and kottu dough.
