Diamond Foods Cumin Whole is a 100g pack of whole Indian cumin seeds, known in most Indian kitchens as jeera. The slim, ridged seeds turn nutty and fragrant the moment they hit hot oil, and that first sizzle starts countless dals, sabzis and rice dishes. It is a single-ingredient spice, imported from India by Diamond Foods of Wembley.
How to use it
Heat a spoon of ghee or oil, add half a teaspoon of cumin and let it crackle for a few seconds before the onions, tomatoes or dal go in. Jeera is one of the few spices many families use while fasting, so it is welcome in Navratri dishes such as sabudana khichdi, vrat aloo and samak rice. Dry roast and crush it for jeera raita, chaas and chaat, or fry it with rice and a bay leaf for simple jeera rice.
