Nelli is the Indian gooseberry, amla, and this is the fizzy green bottle of it that turns up at Sri Lankan and Tamil tables. It is sharp and sweet in the same mouthful, more interesting than a lemonade and a good deal more refreshing after something fried. Eight glasses to a bottle.
How to use it
Very cold, over ice, with a plate of short eats or after a hot curry. A squeeze of lime and a pinch of salt turns it into something close to a nimbu soda.
