Dealicious Mealz Desi Shakkar is jaggery in loose, granular form: the same unrefined Indian cane sweetener as gur, but crumbled so it measures and dissolves like sugar. It keeps the warm caramel flavour of gur without any chopping or grating, which makes it the easy choice for everyday baking and quick sweets. This 1kg jar is packed in India for regular use.
How to use it
Spoon shakkar straight into hot milk, chai or porridge and stir until it melts. In Punjab it is often eaten with ghee over warm roti or rice. For festive cooking, use it in place of sugar in sheera, kheer and atta halwa, adding it after the milk has finished boiling so it does not split. It works well in cakes and cookies too, giving a soft texture and a darker colour. Keep the lid tight, as shakkar can clump in damp air.
