Soghaat Punjabi Tadka Makhana are popped lotus seeds roasted with a bold dhaba-style masala of chilli, amchur, red onion, tomato, garlic, cumin, ginger and black salt. Chilli makes up 12% of the recipe, so these are noticeably spicy, with a tangy, savoury kick that suits anyone who likes their namkeen hot. The 70g screw-top tub is packed in India and imported by Nuovo Foods in West Bromwich.
How to use it
Serve as a crunchy snack with chai or a cold lassi, or set out in bowls with dry fruit and sweets for Diwali and Dussehra visitors. They make a quick topping for chaat and raita, and are good packed into lunch boxes in place of crisps. The seasoning contains onion, garlic and monosodium glutamate, so this flavour is not suitable for Navratri vrat or sattvic menus; for fasting, choose plain makhana roasted in ghee with sendha namak. Keep the lid tightly closed.
