Heera Desiccated Coconut Medium is finely shredded, dried coconut with a medium cut that sits between fine powder and long flakes. It keeps its white colour and sweet, nutty flavour, and it is packed in the UK by P&B Foods in a 700g bag sized for a busy festive kitchen. Medium desiccated coconut is the everyday choice for Indian sweets, South Indian chutneys and home baking.
How to use it
For coconut barfi, warm 200g of desiccated coconut in a heavy pan for two minutes, add 400ml of milk and 150g of sugar, and stir over a medium heat until the mixture thickens and leaves the sides of the pan. Add a pinch of cardamom, spread on a greased tray and cut into squares once set. For a quick chutney, soak a handful in warm water for ten minutes, then grind with green chilli, ginger and salt. It also rolls ladoos and coats cakes.
