777 Nannari Syrup is a sarsaparilla sharbat from Sri Ganeshram's 777 brand, made by SGR (777) Foods in Gummidipoondi, Tamil Nadu, a family company making syrups since 1954. Nannari root gives the syrup its distinctive earthy, sweet flavour, and nannari sherbet is the drink sold from street stalls all over Tamil Nadu in the hot months. One 750ml bottle makes around 37 glasses.
How to use it
Follow the pack ratio: one measure of syrup to four measures of chilled water or soda, with a few drops of fresh lime juice. Stir well and serve over ice. For a festive jug at Navratri, Dussehra or Diwali gatherings, mix 200ml of syrup with 800ml of soda water, squeeze in two limes and add a spoonful of soaked sabja seeds for the classic nannari sarbath texture. Poured over crushed ice, it also makes a quick sweet treat after a long day of cooking.
