The 4kg handled bag of Samayal Roasted Red Rice Flour, made in Sri Lanka for households that steam puttu and string hoppers through the week. The red rice is milled and roasted before packing, so the flour takes boiling water evenly and gives tender idiyappam with the earthy colour and flavour of red rice.
How to use it
For string hoppers, scald the flour with boiling salted water, mix with a spoon, then knead to a soft dough and press onto steaming trays. For puttu, moisten the flour with warm salted water until it forms crumbs that just hold together, layer with fresh coconut in a puttu kuzhal and steam until steam rises from the top. Serve with kadala curry, sothi or a fish curry.
