Tropical Sun is a British brand of Caribbean and African groceries, sold in shops and supermarkets across the UK. Its range covers the seasonings, flours, tins and dairy that Jamaican, Nigerian and Ghanaian households cook with, and it sits naturally beside our South Asian shelves in a multicultural corner of east London.
The Tropical Sun lines we carry span seasonings, including jerk, meat and everyday blends, milk powder, condensed milk, gari and flavouring essences. Most of the range is aimed at everyday family cooking, with seasonings for weekly marinades and dairy that keeps without a fridge.
Jerk seasoning is rubbed into chicken or pork with lime and spring onion before grilling, and the meat and everyday blends season curry goat, stew chicken and rice and peas. Ijebu gari, the sharp, crunchy cassava granule from south west Nigeria, is soaked in cold water with sugar and groundnuts as a snack, or stirred into boiling water to make eba for egusi and okra soup. Full cream milk powder makes tea and porridge, and Indian cooks use it for barfi and gulab jamun dough. Condensed milk sweetens Caribbean punches and quick kalakand, and orange essence flavours cakes.
Close seasoning jars tightly and keep them away from the steam of the hob, and spoon milk powder with a dry scoop so it does not clump. To compare, browse the Anchor milk powder shelf and our salt and seasonings range.
