      About Jay Brand

Jay Brand is a grocery label whose range is built around the rice varieties and traditional grains of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. It covers the everyday rice a family eats at every meal and the heritage grains that older cooks still ask for by name, such as motta karuppan, kambu and saamai.

We carry Jay Brand across red rice, samba rice, raw and naadu rice, ponni rice, sona masoori, seeraga samba and idli rice. The grain shelf adds millets, barley, horse gram, aval, sago, roasted moong dal and roasted rice flour, with palmyrah sugar, jaggery, goraka, tamarind, cinnamon, semiya and coconut milk beside them.

Sri Lankan households cook red raw rice and keeri samba for everyday rice and curry, while Tamil Nadu families boil ponni for meals and soak idli rice with urad dal for batter. Seeraga samba is the grain for Chettinad and Ambur biryani. Ragi, kambu and saamai become kali, koozh and millet pongal, aval is soaked for a quick upma or sweetened with jaggery and coconut, and sago goes into javvarisi payasam with semiya and palmyrah sugar. Roasted rice flour is ready for pittu and string hoppers without the dry-roasting step.

Whole grains and millets keep best in airtight containers away from damp, and a bay leaf or dried red chilli in the rice bin is an old way to keep weevils off. Buy red rice in a size you will use within a few months, as its bran oils can go stale. To compare, browse Sri Lankan rice and South Indian rice.
