Heera Glutinous Rice 2kg

Glutinous rice, also called sticky rice or sweet rice, cooks into soft, chewy grains that cling together. Despite the name it contains no gluten; the stickiness comes from the starch in the grain. It is the rice behind Thai mango sticky rice, Chinese zongzi, Filipino suman and Indonesian ketan.

How to use it

Rinse the rice until the water runs nearly clear, then soak it for at least four hours or overnight. Steam it in a lined basket for 20 to 25 minutes until translucent, turning it once halfway. Stir warm coconut milk, sugar and a pinch of salt through it for mango sticky rice, wrap it in leaves for dumplings, or press it into trays for sweet rice cakes. In Kerala and Sri Lanka it is ground into flour for festive sweets.
