Add one and a half cups of chopped vegetables, a tomato and one tablespoon of the powder and mix. Add salt to taste and three tablespoons of tamarind juice, then cook with the dal for 15 minutes. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve with steamed rice, idli or dosa; it serves 6 to 8.
